Harry GARDNER1

Harry GARDNER was born on 28 September 1912 in Brisbane, Queensland.2,3

He enlisted in the Australian Army, Service No. QX4285 on 21 October 1939 at Brisbane, Queensland.3

He married Alicia Leslie STEWART, daughter of Allan STEWART and Jane BAIN, at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Creek St in Brisbane, Queensland, on 6 March 1943.1 He was discharged from active duty on 20 July 1944. At the time he was a Sergeant with the 3rd Armored TPS Workshop.3

He died in 1948 in Queensland.4

He was educated at Llandaff and St Paul's School, London, before commencing employment with Lambert Bros (shipowners and coal factors).

On the outbreak of war he volunteered, was enlisted in the Queen's Westminster Rifles (Aug 1914) and was subsequently given a commission (gazetted 17 Mar 1915) as 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, Royal Warwickshires, then posted to the 2nd Battalion in July.2

Kenneth died on 25 September 1915 at the Battle of Loos, Pas de Calais area in France at age 19. He was at that stage 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment.5,2 He was buried at the Dud Corner Cemetery (panel 22-25).6
