Janet HUTTON was born in Saline, Fife, on 5 December 1811.1 and was baptised on 22 January 1812 in Saline.1

Marriage banns for Janet and George MOODIE were published on 12 July 1833 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Banns were also published for them in Saline, Fife on Jul 13th.2

She married George MOODIE, son of Thomas MUDIE and Mary Gordon NICOLL, in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, on 16 July 1833.3,4

She was listed in the 1841 census at Springfield in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, with her husband George; he was an Excise officer. Their children Janet, Thomas, Mary and Margaret were listed with them.5

She was listed in the 1851 census at Argyle St in Campbelton, Argyllshire, with her husband George; he was an Inland Revenue officer. Their children Janet, Thomas, Mary, Margaret and George were listed as living with them.6

She was listed in the 1861 census at 31 New Market St in Ayrshire with her husband George; he was now a Supervisor of Excise. Their children Mary, Margaret and George were listed as living with them.7

Janet was named executrix and beneficiary in the will of George MOODIE, her husband, dated 5 September 1866 in Ayrshire; she inherited all his household goods and chattels for use or sale while she lived.8

She was listed in the 1871 census at 6 Eglinton Terrace in Port Ayr, Ayrshire, with her husband George; he now stated he was an Inland Revenue supervisor in the Excise Branch. Their child Mary was listed as living with them.9

She was widowed at age 67 on the death of her husband George on 1 March 1879.10,11,12

Janet HUTTON, Mary Nicoll MOODIE and Margaret MOODIE were appointed executors of George MOODIE's estate in Ayr, Ayrshire, on 21 April 1879.13,11
She was listed as the mother of Margaret MOODIE in the 1881 Census at 13 Kenilworth St in Bootle cum Linacre, Lancashire, and was an annuitant.14
She was listed as the mother-in-law of John FERGUSON in the 1891 Census at 15 Norma Rd, Great Crosby in Waterloo, Lancashire.15

Janet died on 19 March 1894 in Liverpool, Lancashire, at age 82.10 She was buried at the Ayr Cemetery.10
