Margaret McLaren McGREGOR was born in Renfrew, Renfrewshire, in 1908. She was the daughter of Alexander McGREGOR (marine engineer) and Margaret DUNCAN.2,1

She married James John Macinnes BROWN, son of William BROWN and Christina Nowell (Tina) McINNES, at North Church in Renfrew, Renfrewshire, on 15 September 1939. He described himself as an engineer fitter and she was a telephonist.1

Margaret died in 1982 in Greenock, Renfrewshire.3

Mary McGREGOR was born in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, on 31 August 1860.1,2

Mary's marriage to Robert LESLIE was registered between January 1889 and March 1889 in St George Hanover Sq, London, Middlesex.1,3

She was listed in the 1891 census at 'Glynn Arms', Cheam Rd in Ewell, Surrey, with her husband Robert; he was a publican. Their child Robert was listed as living with them.4

She was widowed on the death of her husband Robert between January 1895 and March 1895.5

Mary's marriage to Alfred KILLICK was registered between April 1897 and June 1897 in St George Hanover Sq, London, Middlesex.1,6

She was widowed at age 37 on the death of her husband Alfred on 8 May 1898.7,8

She was a beneficiary on the probate of Alfred KILLICK's will on 24 November 1898.8

She was listed in the 1901 census as Head of Family at 'Glynn Arms Inn', Cheam Rd in Ewell, Surrey; she was a hotel proprietoress, with four employees - from which it appears she inherited the hotel from one or other of her prior husbands.9

Mary's marriage to Peter SCORGIE was registered between September 1901 and December 1901 in St George Hanover Sq, London, Middlesex.1,10

She was listed in the 1911 census at Atholl Sutton Court Road in Sutton, Surrey, with her husband Peter; he was a foreman tailor.11

She left Plymouth on 17 March 1919 on board the Remuera, bound for Port Chalmers with her husband Peter SCORGIE. Although the ship largely carried returning soldiers and their families, their entry in the passenger list curiously states 'Special arrangement NZ Shipping Co.12,13'

Alexander Ferguson recalls that he had always been told a warm welcome would be had at her house in Dunedin, and that he only had to say "I am Jimmie Ferguson's grandson" (as he and Mary were 1st cousins). When he tested this theory in 1937 it was true - however, she also said "You are a McGregor of Rannoch - but we - we are McGregors of Glen Lyon!"

Mary died on 22 June 1944 at Dunedin Public Hospital in Dunedin, Otago, at age 83 of myocardial failure.1,14,12,15 She was cremated in Anderson's Bay on 24 June 1944, and her ashes were placed in a niche wall the next day.1,16
