Charles Cecil STEVENS KCSI was born on 5 July 1840 in Tahiti.1,2

Fanny, Hannah, Charles, John and Joseph arrived in Liverpool on 2 April 1853 on the Great Britain, the ship having left Sydney on the 20 Dec 1852 with their parents Charles Green STEVENS and Deborah Hannah BLOMFIELD.3

He went to school in England at the Birmingham & Edgbaston Proprietory School, but moved to Australia and matriculated at the new University of Melbourne in February 1856 (the 17th person to matriculate in the colony of Victoria), was awarded a Mathematics Exhibition and went back to UK where he took his degree at London University with honours in Classics and Mathematics in 1860. Then in 1860 he sat and passed the open competition for the Indian Civil Service, taking third place. He had a distinguished career in India over the next 39 years, in many posts including Chief Secretary to the Bengal Government, and finally Lieut-Governor of Bengal in 1897-8. Retired 1898, and was knighted (appointed Knight Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India in 1905).1

He received a degree in May 1860 at London, Middlesex.4
He was listed in the 1861 census at 17 Lloyd Sq, St Sepulchre in London, Middlesex, and proudly announced he was a 'BA, selected for I.C. Service.5' He received a degree in August 1861 at England , being awarded 8th place in the Civil Service of India examinations.6

He married Mary Anne Caroline TURNER at St Paul's Cathedral in Calcutta, Bengal, on 16 December 1862.7,8

In 1865, he was Asst Magistrate in the Bengal Civil Service.9 Charles was awarded the Knight Commander of the Star of India (KCSI) in Jan 1895.10

He was listed in the 1901 census as Head of Family at 32 Harcourt Tce in Kensington, London, Middlesex; he was a retired civil servant. His daughter Nina was listed as living with him.11

He signed the register at Arthur Cornish Jeremie STEVENS CBE, DSO and Annie Elizabeth MORISON's wedding in Lamphey, Pembrokeshire, on 16 April 1907.12,13

Charles died on 27 March 1909 at 32 Harcourt Tce in Kensington, London, Middlesex, at age 68.14

Charles Francis Linnaeus STEVENS was born on 26 January 1892 in Darjeeling, Bengal,1 and was baptised on 6 March 1892 at St Andrews in Darjeeling.1
He was listed in the 1901 census, boarding at Dane Court School in Poole, Dorset.2
He was listed in the 1911 census at Royal Military Academy Sergeants and Servants Quarters and Warrant Officer's House, Red Lion Lane, Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, London, Middlesex, where he was a Gentleman Cadet in the Royal Artillery.3

His MC citation reads: Capt. Charles Francis Linnaeus Stevens, Indian Cavalry. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in successfully commanding and leading his squadron in a raid on enemy trenches. The task was thoroughly carried out and every one of the enemy accounted for.4

He married Geraldine Nora BARTON at St Jude in Kensington, London, Middlesex, on 3 January 1918. He described himself as a Captain in the 10th Lancers.5,6

In 1930 Charles petitioned Geraldine Nora BARTON for divorce, citing Charles WINTER as co-respondent.7

Charles's marriage to Evelyn Pamela STEVENS, daughter of Algernon Francis STEVENS and Evelyn Alice CARTER, was registered between July 1932 and September 1932 in Kensington, London, Middlesex.8

Charles's marriage to Evelyn Lilian Julia Emma CUDDINGTON was registered between January 1949 and March 1949 in Plympton, Devon.9

Charles died on 3 November 1968 in Bembridge, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, at age 76.10,11

Charles Green STEVENS

Charles Green STEVENS was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, in October 1810.1,2

He married Deborah Hannah BLOMFIELD, daughter of Ezekiel BLOMFIELD and Mary FUNNELL, at the Registry Office in Denton, District of Loddon & Clavering, Norfolk, on 21 November 1837.1,3,4,5 He was ordained on 27 November 1837 at Bristol, Bristol.1

They sailed under the auspices of the London Missionary Society, leaving 11 April 1838, arriving in Sydney September 10 and at Tahiti March 12, 1839. Due to ill-health, at the close of 1840 they left the islands and proceeded via America to England, where they arrived June 23 1841, when Charles left the LMS.6

Charles and his wife Deborah arrived in Liverpool on 2 April 1853 on the Great Britain, the ship having left Sydney on the 20 Dec 1852 accompanied by their children Fanny, Hannah, Charles, John and Joseph.7

He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family at 19 Chesterhouse St (a lodging house) in St Sepulchre, London, Middlesex; he gave his occupation as general merchant. His children Fanny and Algernon were listed as living with him.2

He married Daphne Joan Emma LIDDLE at St Augustine's in Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, on 7 August 1924.2,3
He served with 41 Squadron, RAF from 2 September 1935 until 11 Jun 1936, having been commissioned in Aug 1922 on his graduation from Cranwell. The squadron was equipped with Hawker Demons at this time.4

He was promoted from Flying Officer to Flight Lieutenant (6 Nov 1928), then Squadron Leader (1 Oct 1936), then to Wing Commander on 1 January 1940.5,6

Charles's death was registered between October 1986 and December 1986 in Torbay, Devon.7

He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers when married, but attained the rank of Captain by the time of his son's birth.4

Charles died on 14 August 1900 in Bhagalpur, Bengal, at age 34 of enteric fever.5,6 He was buried on 15 August 1900 in Bhagulpur.6

However, in a codicil dated 14 Aug 1922, the estate residue was directed solely in favour of her mother.3
