Cecil James Duff Stevens was born at Westbourne House, 438 Union St in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, on 8 September 1893.1,2,3

He emigrated to the USA on 18 March 1922, travelling on the Celtic from Liverpool to New York, giving his occupation as 'Secretary.4'

He married Katherine Irene Richards between 1923 and 1927.

He and his wife Katherine arrived in Plymouth on the 3 November 1932 from New York on the Manhattan, and returned on the Majestic, arriving back in New York on the 6 Dec 1932. They were both using the surname 'DUFF-STEVENS' and he gave his occupation as salesman.5,4 He was naturalised on 9 November 1939 in Chicago, Illinois.3

Cecil died on 8 August 1974 in Sarasota, Florida, at age 80.6

Cecil Robert Stevens MD, FRCS was born in Arrah, Bengal, on 14 March 1867.1 and was baptised on 24 April 1867 at St Saviour's Church in Arrah.1

He became Professor of Anatomy at Calcutta University College.2

He married Catherine Duff at St Mary Abbots in Kensington, London, Middlesex, on 13 October 1892.3,4

He rose to be Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Medical Service (A Force, No. 8A Gen. Hospital) and served in the Chitral (1895) and Tirah (1897-8) campaigns.5

Cecil died on 18 November 1919 at Lyncourt in Paignton, Devon, at age 52.6 He was buried at the Paignton Cemetery in Paignton.7

Charles Cecil Stevens KCSI was born in Tahiti on 5 July 1840.1,2

Fanny, Hannah, Charles, John and Joseph arrived in Liverpool on 2 April 1853 on the Great Britain, the ship having left Sydney on the 20 Dec 1852 with their parents Charles Green Stevens and Deborah Hannah Blomfield.3

He went to school in England at the Birmingham & Edgbaston Proprietory School, but moved to Australia and matriculated at the new University of Melbourne in February 1856 (the 17th person to matriculate in the colony of Victoria), was awarded a Mathematics Exhibition and went back to UK where he took his degree at London University with honours in Classics and Mathematics in 1860. Then in 1860 he sat and passed the open competition for the Indian Civil Service, taking third place. He had a distinguished career in India over the next 39 years, in many posts including Chief Secretary to the Bengal Government, and finally Lieut-Governor of Bengal in 1897-8. Retired 1898, and was knighted (appointed Knight Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India in 1905).1

He was awarded a BA (from Melbourne University and Springhill College) at a University of London ceremony at London, Middlesex, in May 1860.4
He was listed in the 1861 census at 17 Lloyd Sq, St Sepulchre in London, Middlesex, and proudly announced he was a 'BA, selected for I.C. Service'. His brother John was also boarding at this address.5

He was awarded 8th place in the Civil Service of India examinations at England in August 1861.6

He married Mary Anne Caroline Turner at St Paul's Cathedral in Calcutta, Bengal, on 16 December 1862.7,8

In 1865, he was Asst Magistrate in the Bengal Civil Service.9 He was awarded the Knight Commander of the Star of India (KCSI) on 1 January 1895.10

He was listed in the 1901 census as Head of Family at 32 Harcourt Tce in Kensington, London, Middlesex; he was a retired civil servant. His daughter Nina was listed as living with him.11

He signed the register at Arthur Cornish Jeremie Stevens CBE, DSO and Annie Elizabeth Morison's wedding at the parish church in Lamphey, Pembrokeshire, on 16 April 1907.12,13

Charles died on 27 March 1909 at 32 Harcourt Tce in Kensington, London, Middlesex, at age 68.14

He was listed in the 1911 census at Royal Military Academy Sergeants and Servants Quarters and Warrant Officer's House, Red Lion Lane, Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, London, Middlesex, where he was a Gentleman Cadet in the Royal Artillery.3

His MC citation reads: Capt. Charles Francis Linnaeus Stevens, Indian Cavalry. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in successfully commanding and leading his squadron in a raid on enemy trenches. The task was thoroughly carried out and every one of the enemy accounted for.4

He married Geraldine Nora Barton at St Jude in Kensington, London, Middlesex, on 3 January 1918. He described himself as a Captain in the 10th Lancers.5,6

In 1930 Charles petitioned Geraldine Nora Barton for divorce, citing Charles WINTER as co-respondent.7

Charles's marriage to Evelyn Pamela Stevens, daughter of Algernon Francis Stevens and Evelyn Alice Carter, was registered between July 1932 and September 1932 in Kensington, London, Middlesex.8

Charles's marriage to Evelyn Lilian Julia Emma Cuddington was registered between January 1949 and March 1949 in Plympton, Devon.9

Charles died on 3 November 1968 in Bembridge, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, at age 76.10,11

Charles Green Stevens

Charles Green Stevens was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, in October 1810.1,2

He married Deborah Hannah Blomfield, daughter of Ezekiel Blomfield and Mary Funnell, at the Registry Office in Denton, District of Loddon & Clavering, Norfolk, on 21 November 1837.1,3,4,5 He was ordained a Deacon on 27 November 1837 at Bridge St Church in Bristol, Bristol.1

They sailed under the auspices of the London Missionary Society, leaving 11 April 1838, arriving in Sydney September 10 and at Tahiti March 12, 1839. Due to ill-health, at the close of 1840 they left the islands and proceeded via America to England, where they arrived June 23 1841, when Charles left the LMS.6

He and his wife Deborah arrived in Liverpool on 2 April 1853 on the Great Britain, the ship having left Sydney on the 20 Dec 1852 accompanied by their children Fanny, Hannah, Charles, John and Joseph.7

He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family at 19 Chesterhouse St (a lodging house) in St Sepulchre, London, Middlesex; he gave his occupation as general merchant. His children Fanny and Algernon were listed as living with him.2

He married Daphne Joan Emma Liddle at St Augustine's in Thorpe Bay, Southend on Sea, Essex, on 7 August 1924.2,3
He served with 41 Squadron, RAF from 2 September 1935 until 11 Jun 1936, having been commissioned in Aug 1922 on his graduation from Cranwell. The squadron was equipped with Hawker Demons at this time.4 He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant (6 Nov 1928), then Squadron Leader (1 Oct 1936), then to Wing Commander on 1 January 1940.5,6

Charles's death was registered between October 1986 and December 1986 in Torbay, Devon.7

He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers when married, but attained the rank of Captain by the time of his son's birth.4

Charles died on 14 August 1900 in Bhagalpur, Bengal, at age 34 of enteric fever.5,6 He was buried on 15 August 1900 in Bhagulpur.6

Elizabeth Nina Margaret (Nina Bettine) Stevens was born in Plymouth, Devon, on 22 January 1908.1,3 She was baptised at Emmanuel in Plymouth, Devon, on 20 March 1908 as Nina Bettine Stevens.4
The siblings Elizabeth and Patience were listed in the 1921 census at 34 Emporer's Gate in Kensington, London, Middlesex, with their parents, Arthur Cornish Jeremie Stevens CBE, DSO and Annie Elizabeth Morison. Elizabeth is listed here as Bettine Deans Stevens and used various versions of these names during her life.5,6

She was listed in the 1939 Register at 7 Knighton Court in Leicester, Leicestershire; she was livng with Francis Keast (an RAF flying instructor) and his wife Ruth and was awaiting appointment into the WRAAF or WRENS (unclear which).7

Elizabeth died on 28 February 1985 in Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, at age 77.3,8

Her will was probated in Winchester on 15 August 1985 with an estate of £32080 under the name of Nina Bettine Deans STEVENS.8

She was named as a beneficiary of the will of Joseph Nisbet Stevens, her father, dated 2 September 1920 at 11 Erica Ave in East Malvern, Melbourne, Victoria; she was to inherit £150 from his life insurance and the residue of the estate shared equally with her mother and siblings. However, in a codicil dated 14 Aug 1922, the estate residue was directed solely in favour of her mother.3

Emily's death was registered in 1947 in Mont Park, Melbourne, Victoria.4
