He married Jean (Jane) McCOLL, daughter of Dugald McCOLL and Cathrine SINCLAIR, at 54 Plantation St, Govan in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 16 December 1881. There were no children from this marriage.1

Alexander died on 16 January 1903 at 46 Plantation St in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, of locomotor ataxia. The informant was his brother-in-law.2
