William John Anston COLDSTREAM (1901-1932)
William John Anson Coldstream was born in Naini Tal, Bengal, on 15 July 1901.1 and was baptised on 14 August 1901 at Church of St John in the Wilderness in Naini Tal.1

He married Pamela (Pansy) Gladys McGowan at Church of Scotland in Rawalpindi, Bengal, on 7 November 1928.2,3

He was a doctor who won many prizes at Edinbugh University as a medical student, and returned to India to serve as a military doctor. He was appointed Civil Surgeon and put in charge of the hospital at Peshawar, where he was assassinated by a Muslim hospital orderly, a semi-educated youth named Abdul Rashid with a political motive, on 22 July 1932. His widow was awarded an extraordinary widow's pension of £140 a year by the Indian government, and also awarded a special gratuity of the maximum permitted by the Government's rules. They had no children.4 He was buried on 22 July 1932 at the Tehkalbala Cemetery in Peshawar.5,6

William died on 22 July 1932 at Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, Bengal, at age 31 of murder, having been stabbed in the neck by an orderly. His assailant tried to escape but was quickly arrested.7,5,8

William died on 10 November 1943 at The Royal South Hampshire and Southampton Hospital in Southampton, Hampshire, at age 74.6,7
