William FORFAR was born in Scotland in 1757.

Formerly a school teacher at Cairnlee, he was presented to King George III on the 26th of September 1792. After being ordained into the Presbyterian Church on the 24th of January 1793, he remained in the ministry at Saline for 52 years. He was the first preacher at the 'modern' (1811) church.1

He married Maxwell BETHUNE, daughter of Neil BETHUNE and Janet JAMISON, in Saline, Fife, on 14 March 1794.2

William died on 24 November 1844 in Saline, Fife.

He served in the Boer War, along with his brother Valentine, until his discharge on 11 Jan 1902, having been judged militarily unfit due to a compound fracture of his right ring finger, and its subsequent amputation.6,7
