John George LENFESTEY was born in St Pierre-du-Bois, Guernsey, Channel Islands, on 9 October 1843.1,2

He obtained his Captain's certificate (C81280) in London in 1868.4

He was master of the brigantine Star of the West, launched 1869, which made major overseas voyages in 1872-80. Lenfestey, 13p Leaving St. Peter Port, 26p Off Rio Grande Bar, 28p Off St. Lucia, 31p Map of 1879-80 voyage).6

He married Maria LE QUESNE, daughter of Richard LE QUESNE and Eliza LE COUTEUR, in Jersey, Channel Islands, in 1883.2

He was listed in the 1891 census as Head of Family at "Bordage" in St Pierre-du-Bois, Guernsey, Channel Islands, with his wife Maria; he was a grape-grower and retired Master Mariner. Their children Estelle, Christine and John were listed as living with them, as were Maria's father Richard LE QUESNE and her sister Emma S. LE QUESNE.7

He was listed in the 1901 census as Head of Family at "Bordage" in St Pierre-du-Bois, Guernsey, Channel Islands, with his wife Maria; he was a grower. Their children Estelle, Christine, John, Evelyne, Elaine, Thomas and Edmond were listed as living with them, as was Maria's sister Emma S. LE QUESNE.8

He was listed in the 1911 census as Head of Family at "Bordage" in St Pierre-du-Bois, Guernsey, Channel Islands, with his wife Maria; he was a fruit grower and farmer. Their children Estelle, Christine, Evelyne and Elaine were listed as living with them.9

John died on 6 August 1916 in St Pierre-du-Bois, Guernsey, Channel Islands, at age 72.10 He was buried at the Cemetery in Torteval.
