John CROSS1

(c 1834 - )
Father*John CROSS1 b. c 1799
Mother*Agnes DORROCH1 b. c 1806, d. c 1850
John CROSS was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, circa 1834.1,2
The siblings Isabella, Frances, Margaret, John, Agnes, Amelia, George and Elizabeth were listed in the 1841 census at 114 Bath St in Barony, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, with their parents, John CROSS and Agnes DORROCH.1
The siblings Frances, Margaret, John, Amelia, George, Elizabeth, Frederick, Henry, Edward, Albert and Charles were listed in the 1851 census at Mavisbank Cottage in Airdrie, New Monkland, Lanarkshire, with their father John CROSS. John was a writer's clerk (so presumably working for his father).2

He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family at Arden Cottage in Airdrie, New Monkland, Lanarkshire; he was a coalmaster. This must have been a substantial 'cottage' as it had 12 rooms with windows, and housed three servants as well as his five brothers (George, Frederick, Edward, Albert and Charles) and two sisters (Amelia and Elizabeth).3
