Robert Baker
(c 1807 - 1885)
Father* | Samuel Baker1 |
Mother* | Martha Martin1 |
Robert Baker was born in Leeds, Kent, circa 1807. His birth date is unclear - in the 1851 census he claimed an age of 49 (although possibly could be read as 44), in 1861 it was 52, in 1871 was 64, in 1881 was 76, and at his death in 1885 (if it is the right Robert) was 78. This mostly implies a birth year of 1807, which would fit with his baptism.2,3 He was baptised in Leeds, Kent, on 5 July 1807.1
He married Elizabeth Moseley in Maidstone, Kent, on 29 April 1832.4
He was listed in the 1841 census in Leeds, Kent, with his wife Elizabeth; he was an agricultural labourer. Their children Ellen, Elizabeth, Mathew and Mark were listed with them.5
He was listed in the 1851 census as Head of Family in Leeds, Kent, with his wife Elizabeth; he was an agricultural labourer. Their children Ellen, Mathew, Mark, George, Emily and Charles were listed as living with them.2
He was widowed on the death of his wife Elizabeth before 1861.
He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family at 2 Lower St in Leeds, Kent; he was an agricultural labourer. His children George, Emily, Charles and Henry were listed as living with him.6
Robert's second marriage was to Mary Ann Cox on 7 October 1861 in Maidstone, Kent.7,8
He was listed in the 1871 census as Head of Family in Leeds, Kent, with his wife Mary; he was an agricultural labourer. His son Henry was listed as living with him.9
He was listed in the 1881 census as Head of Family at Lower St in Leeds, Kent; he was an agricultural labourer. His son George was listed as living with him, along with a housekeeper.10
Robert's death was registered between April 1885 and June 1885 in Hollingbourne, Kent.3
