Joseph Webster Crompton was born in New Zealand on 25 April 1900. He was the fourth son of Henry Jardine CROMPTON & Louisa Isabel Clara JENNINGS.2,3

He studied at Seddon Technical College night school and after an apprenticeship at J.C. Sharlands in Auckland, registered as a pharmicist in 1922 and moved to Whangarei where he worked for Frank Reed. Most of his career was spent in Te Aroha, where he owned a pharmacy and served as a JP and the local coroner for many years. His early interest was sailing, and with his brother-in-law Hereward Pickmere he helped build the prototype of the P-Class yacht in Whangarei.2

He married Olga Serena Pickmere, daughter of Arthur Ranulph Pickmere and Edith Mary Wilson, at Whangarei Anglican Church. in Whangarei, Northland, on 7 May 1925.4,1,5,6

He was widowed at age 57 on the death of his wife Olga on 20 August 1957.2,1,7

Joseph died on 9 October 1991 in Auckland at age 91.8,1,9 He was buried on 12 October 1991 at the St Johns in East Tamaki.8,1
