George Moodie was born in Kilrenny, Fife, circa June 1809.1 and was baptised on 2 July 1809 in Newburn.2,3

Marriage banns for George and Janet Hutton were published on 12 July 1833 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Banns were also published for them in Saline, Fife on Jul 13th.4

He married Janet Hutton, daughter of George Hutton and Janet Harley, in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, on 16 July 1833.5,6

He was listed in the 1841 census at Springfield in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, with his wife Janet; he was an Excise officer. Their children Janet, Thomas, Mary and Margaret were listed with them.7

He was listed in the 1851 census as Head of Family at Argyle St in Campbelton, Argyllshire, with his wife Janet; he was an Inland Revenue officer. Their children Janet, Thomas, Mary, Margaret and George were listed as living with them.8

He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family at 31 New Market St in Ayrshire with his wife Janet; he was now a Supervisor of Excise. Their children Mary, Margaret and George were listed as living with them.9

He signed a will dated 5 September 1866 in Ayrshire, entitled 'Trust Disposition and Settlement', which left his chattels to his wife (while alive) and after her death devolved the estate to the two daughters who were co-executors; on their death or marriage, their shares went equally to all the surviving children.10

He was listed in the 1871 census as Head of Family at 6 Eglinton Terrace in Port Ayr, Ayrshire, with his wife Janet; he now stated he was an Inland Revenue supervisor in the Excise Branch. Their child Mary was listed as living with them.11

George died on 1 March 1879 at Queens Terrace in Ayr, Ayrshire.12,13,14 He was buried at the Ayr Cemetery.12

George Hutton Moodie was born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 16 February 1842. and was baptised on 27 March 1842 in Gorbals.1
The siblings Janet, Thomas, Mary, Margaret and George were listed in the 1851 census at Argyle St in Campbelton, Argyllshire, with their parents, George Moodie and Janet Hutton.2
The siblings Mary, Margaret and George were listed in the 1861 census at 31 New Market St in Ayrshire with their parents, George Moodie and Janet Hutton. George was a grain dealer's clerk.3

He emigrated to New Zealand on the Pladda in 1862 and reputedly carried the Law family bible with him as a gift from his mother.4

He signed the register at Thomas Moodie and Helen Inglis Brown's wedding at Jas. Brown house, Spring Bank in Dunedin, Otago, on 26 August 1863.5,6,7

George was present at the wedding of Thomas Moodie and Jean Dalziel at Knox Church in Dunedin, Otago, on 4 September 1863.6,8,9

He was named as a beneficiary of the will of George Moodie, his father, dated 5 September 1866 in Ayrshire; on the death of his mother and the death or marriage of his two executor siblings he was to inherit an equal share of the remaining estate.10

He married Janet Harley Hutton, daughter of John Hutton and Maxwell Jameson Forfar, in Saline, Fife, on 15 February 1875.11

He was widowed at age 60 on the death of his wife Janet on 1 March 1902.12,13

George died on 2 November 1934 in Hastings, Hawkes Bay, at age 92.14,12,15 He was buried on 7 November 1934 at the Northern Cemetery.14,16

Gordon Moodie was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, on 26 September 1838. On his death certificate his daughter Alice (informant) claimed his parents were David MOODIE and Mary YOUNG, but there are no Scottish records for such a union. Family folklore also claims that he was the illegitmate son of David MOODIE.2,3,1
He was listed as a member of Thomas Mudie's household in the 1841 census in Alloa, Clackmannanshire.4
He was listed as the grandson of Mary Gordon Nicoll in the 1851 Census in Alloa, Clackmannanshire.5

Gordon arrived at New York, on 24 August 1853 on the Glasgow, aged 15, giving his occupation as labourer.6,7
He was listed in the 1860 US census in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, in Thomas Moodie's household.2

He stated the intention to marry Sarah Louise Smith, daughter of Josiah D Smith, in Franklin, Ohio, on 16 June 1863.8

He was listed in the 1900 US census as head of the family at 1056 Oak St in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, with his wife Sarah; no occupation was given for Gordon and the family were living in a rented house. Their child Grace was listed as living with them, as was Sarah's brother Ralph O Smith.6

He was listed in the 1910 US census as head of the family at 75 Champion St in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, with his wife Sarah; they were living in a rented house on 'own means'. Their child Grace was listed as living with them, and the household included Sarah's brothers Ralph and Josiah, plus Emily M SMITH (daughter-in-law) and Alison SMITH (niece), whose full family relationships are unclear.11

Gordon died on 24 March 1912 at 75 S Champion Ave, Montgomery in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, at age 73 of a cerebral haemorrhage. The informant was his daughter Alice.1,3 He was buried on 26 March 1912 at the Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.3,1
