He married Jane Noonan in Killucan, Co. Westmeath, on 3 June 1844.^1,2

He was pensioned out of the force on 1 April 1870 after serving 29 years and 11 months, with an annual pension of £36; the last payment was made to his wife Jane.³

Richard died on 14 January 1879 in Miltownpass, Co. Westmeath.^4,5,6 He was buried at the Cemetery on Mullingar road in Miltownpass.
