Richard's Royal Irish Constabulary service record (#4223) show that he was appointed on 23 March 1840 at age 22, height 5' 9-1/2", Protestant, and a native of Co. Down - curiously his previous occupation is given as 'None'. He was immediately assigned to Westmeath, where he appears to have served with an unblemished record.1
He married Jane Noonan in Killucan, Co. Westmeath, on 3 June 1844.1,2
He was pensioned out of the force on 1 April 1870 after serving 29 years and 11 months, with an annual pension of £36; the last payment was made to his wife Jane.3
Richard died on 14 January 1879 in Miltownpass, Co. Westmeath.4,5,6 He was buried at the Cemetery on Mullingar road in Miltownpass.
