Margaret Hay was born in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, on 15 September 1787.2 and was baptised on 20 September 1787 in Kilsyth.2

There is some confusion on Margaret's age - the 1851 census suggests she was 56 (b. c1795), but on her death she was supposedly 68 (b. c1787) - this date seems more likely.

She married Archibald Mason in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, on 7 December 1811.3,4

She was listed in the 1841 census at Burnside in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, with her husband Archibald; he was a plasterer.5

She was widowed on the death of her husband Archibald before 1851.

She was listed in the 1851 census as Head of Family at Bridge-end, Charles St in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire.6

Margaret died on 22 May 1856 at Burnside in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, at age 68 having been found dead in bed. The informant was her son-in-law Thomas ELDER.7

She married Albert Richmond Macdonald, son of Alexander Blomfield Macdonald and Wilhelmina Wallis, in New Zealand in 1938.2,4

She was widowed at age 63 on the death of her husband Albert on 15 March 1980.2

Mary died in 2004 in New Zealand.5
