He was listed in the 1901 census, boarding at 56 Springfield Rd in Brighton, Sussex, in the household of a Mary Ann THOROFORD and her school-teacher daughter Charlotte, accompanied by his brother Arthur.4
He married Mercy Rudd Vince in Fort William, Thunder Bay, Ontario, on 9 September 1911.5
