Janet's adopting parents were Albert Butterworth CARTWRIGHT (b. 24 Jul 1900 Manchester, d. 5 Jun 1977) and Margaret Mary Jane HARKNESS (b. 11 Apr 1898 Killarney, d. 1965). Albert was a pit and sessions wind instrument musician with the Carl Rosa opera company and the family later moved to Ireland. It is unclear why Jean waited so long to adopt her out, but presumably circumstances must have changed for her to take this path.13
She was listed in the 1939 Register at 42 Oxford Rd in Reading, Berkshire; widowed, and Staff Supervisor in the filing department of National Accounting Machines.3
Jean's second marriage was to Raymond Norman Bournon on 6 July 1945 in Reading, Berkshire.14

Janet's adopting parents were Albert Butterworth CARTWRIGHT (b. 24 Jul 1900 Manchester, d. 5 Jun 1977) and Margaret Mary Jane HARKNESS (b. 11 Apr 1898 Killarney, d. 1965). Albert was a pit and sessions wind instrument musician with the Carl Rosa opera company and the family later moved to Ireland. It is unclear why Jean waited so long to adopt her out, but presumably circumstances must have changed for her to take this path.13
She was listed in the 1939 Register at 42 Oxford Rd in Reading, Berkshire; widowed, and Staff Supervisor in the filing department of National Accounting Machines.3
Jean's second marriage was to Raymond Norman Bournon on 6 July 1945 in Reading, Berkshire.14
She left London on 14 July 1949 on board the Otranto, bound for Australia with her husband Raymond, accompanied by Elizabeth Catherine Gifford. The four children with them were listed under the name of BOURNON, although Brian and Elizabeth were born as BURGESS.6
She was widowed at age 71 on the death of her husband Raymond on 25 February 1976.15,16,17,18 She was awarded the British Empire Medal (Civil) for services to youth and community in the 1981 New Year Honours List.19
Jean died on 16 September 1993 in Victoria at age 89.16 She was buried at the Mornington Cemetery, 40 Craigie Rd in Mt Martha.
