His estate was subject to an order to administer granted to the Public Trustee on 29 January 1929 at Wellington as he had died intestate, his wife was a mental patient and his sister Helen had lodged a request for the Public Trustee to do so.9

James McKechie and Thomas McKechie left London on 22 August 1912 on board the 'Tongariro' in the company of their parents Thomas McKechie and Christina Penman Hunter.4

He married Coral Frances Williams, daughter of Arthur Henry Williams and Mary Baird Armstrong, at St Paul's Church in Christchurch, Canterbury, on 11 April 1936.5,6

James McKechie, Thomas McKechie, Hugh Russell Hynd McKechie and William Hunter McKechie were named beneficiaries of the will of Thomas McKechie, their father, dated 29 May 1937 in Dunedin; they, or their descendents, were to inherit equal shares of the estate.7

Thomas died on 28 June 1983 in Christchurch, Canterbury, at age 72.1,8

He married Christina Penman Hunter at The Masonic Hall, Kelty in Beath, Fife, on 17 July 1908. He was a coal-miner, his father a pit fireman, while she gave her occupation as domestic servant.5,6

He was listed in the 1911 census as Head of Family at Seafar House in Beath, Fife, with his wife Christina; he was a coal-miner (hewer). Their child James was listed as living with them.7

He left London on 22 August 1912 on board the 'Tongariro' with his wife Christina, accompanied by James and Thomas. They arrived in Wellington before trans-shipping to Westport, travelling with the family of Thomas' brother James.8

He was widowed on the death of his wife Christina on 17 July 1933.9,10

He signed a will dated 29 May 1937 in Dunedin, in which he left £50 and his gold watch (inscribed "W.A.G") and chain to his grandson an unknown person . The remainder of his estate was to be administered by the Public Trustee and divided equally amongst his four sons James, Thomas, Hugh and William (or their children or grand-children in equal shares if they predeceased him).11

Thomas died on 14 March 1945 in Dunedin, Otago.12,13,11 He was buried on 17 March 1945 at the Green Island Cemetery.9
