John Cornwallis Godley was born in Co. Cavan on 9 February 1861.2
He married Mary Blanche McNaught, daughter of William McNaught and Ann Forsaith, at St George's Cathedral in Madras, Madras, on 10 January 1895. John was employed by the Madras Eduction Dept at this time.1,3
He was widowed at age 76 on the death of his wife Mary on 3 March 1937.4
He was appointed administrator of Mary Blanche McNaught's estate in London on 16 October 1937.4
John died on 19 August 1946 at 22 Cardigan Rd in Richmond, Surrey, at age 85.5,6
His will was probated in London, Middlesex, on 13 December 1946 to Lloyds Bank Ltd with an estatue valued at £31364 'in England'. As the probate records also give an address of Turbo Valley, Kenya, it is possible there was a further estate there.6
