He married Margaret Stuart (Gretta) Macdonald, daughter of Thomas Lachlan Macdonald KCMG and Elsie Ann Stuart, in New Zealand on 30 March 1957.
He and his wife Margaret left Auckland on the Mariposa on 7 Oct 1958, bound for San Francisco, via Suva. They eventually arrived in Plymouth on 11 Nov 1958, having crossed the Atlantic on the Liberte. He gave his occupation as 'advertising executive' for the Shell Petroleum Co.5,6
By 1968 the couple were back in Australia, living in Lane Cove, but returned to New Zealand by 1972, where they established an art dealership in Auckland, before retiring to Dunedin by 1978.7,8
