He was listed in the 1911 census at 25 Duffryn St in Aberbargoed, Bedwelty, Monmouthshire, in the household of his parents Henery (49, a colliery engine fitter) and Lucy Mary (39) with his siblings Lucy Mary (12), Henery James (10), joseph William (8), John (4) and twin sister Winifred Kathleen (2).4
He was listed in the 1921 census at 4 Tredegar Terrace in Aberbargoed, Bedwelty, Monmouthshire, still living with his parents Henry (59, now a foreman fitter at the Powel Duffryn Steam Cola Co.) and Lucy Mary (60). His sister Lucy Mary was now a shop assistant and his brothers were also all working at the Powell Duffryn colliery - Henry James as a fitter, joseph William as an electrical armature winder and John as an apprentice fitter.5
Herbert's marriage to Dorothy Mary Morgan, daughter of William John Morgan and Caroline Maud Fergusson, was registered between July 1939 and September 1939 in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire.1

William Rose1
(1835 - 1872)
William Rose was born at 'Corra Linn' in Launceston, Tasmania, on 26 May 1835. He was the second son of Alexander ROSE and Isobel ROBELY, following an elder brother David (b. 1832).2
His mother Isobel died on 5 Oct 1840 of a liver complaint and his father took both boys (now aged 9 and 6) back to Scotland for their education. While there his father married Madaline MacTAVISH in Inverness in Nov 1842 - she was 21 while he was then 43.
They all came back to Tasmania in 1843, where six step-siblings of Wiliam were born. These were Cecelia Margaret (b. 23 Sep 1843); Alexander (b. 12 Apr 1845, d. 25 Feb 1871) who inherited 'Cora Linn', but dies 7 mths later; Hugh (b. 15 May 1848, d. 14 Feb 1849); James Hugh (b. 25 Feb 1850, d. 17 Nov 1883) who drowned in the Tamar River; Robert (b. 28 Nov 1852, d. 11 Apr 1853); Anne Madeline (b. 18 Apr 1855) who married John Herbert LANGHOME of Sale, Victoria on 22 Feb 1886. They eventually lived at ‘Corra Linn’ at Barwon Heads and had a daughter, Madeline.2
He married Bertha Blomfield Matthews, daughter of Richard Matthews and Johanna Sarah Blomfield, in New Zealand in 1866.3,4
