Robert Robertson was born in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, circa 1835. He was the son of John ROBERTSON (a cab proprietor) and Janet McDONALD.1,2

He married Catherine Fergusson, daughter of John Fergusson and Christy McGregor, at 287 Duke St in Dennistoun, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 28 June 1878. He was a bank messenger.1

He was listed in the 1881 census as Head of Family at 66 George St in St Andrew, Edinburgh, Midlothian, with his wife Catherine; he was a bank messenger. Their child John was listed as living with them.3

He was listed in the 1891 census as Head of Family at 66 George St in St Andrew, Edinburgh, Midlothian, with his wife Catherine; he was still a bank messenger. Their children John, Robert, Christina and William were listed as living with them.4

He was listed in the 1901 census as Head of Family at 66 George St in St Andrew, Edinburgh, Midlothian, with his wife Catherine; he was still working as a bank messenger. Their children John, Robert, Christina, William and Janet were listed as living with them.5

He was listed in the 1911 census as Head of Family at 97 Spottiswoode St in Morningside, Edinburgh, Midlothian, with his wife Catherine; he was now retired; they both spoke English and Gaelic and their house had four rooms with 3 or more windows. Their children John, Christina and Janet were listed as living with them, as was a lodger.2

Robert died on 17 December 1915 at 97 Spottiswoode St in Morningside, Edinburgh, Midlothian, of heart failure.6
