Robert John Minnitt CMG was born in St Marylebone, London, Middlesex, on 2 April 1913.3,2
He was listed in the 1921 census at Clairville Crofton in Orpington, Kent, with his parents Charles Frederick and Winifred May Minnitt (both of whom were born in Auckland, NZ). Charles was the Manager for Fire and Marine Insurance with the New Zealand Insurance Co Ltd.4

He arrived in San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California, on 11 May 1941 on the President Coolidge having left Hong Kong on 2 Apr, occupation Civil Servant. He must have returned to Hong Kong shortly thereafter, as he was interned by the Japanese after their takeover of Hong Kong in Dec 1941.5,6

He married Peggy Christine Sharp, daughter of Eric William Sharp and Christine Martha Lenfestey, at Stanley Civilian Internment Camp in Hong Kong on 1 June 1943.7,6

He and his wife Peggy arrived in Southampton on 12 May 1947 on the Strathmore from Hong Kong, heading for Guernsey.8

He and his wife Peggy left Southampton on 16 January 1948 on the Canton for Hong Kong.9

He and his wife Peggy arrived back in London on 8 August 1950 on the Carthage from Hong Kong.10

He and his wife Peggy arrived in Wellington (in transit to Fiji) on 6 October 1952 on the Rangitoto having left London on 5 Sep.11,9 While Secretary in the Colonial Office, West Pacific High Commission, he was awarded the CMG in the New Year Honours list of 1 January 1955.1

He and his wife Peggy left London on 23 May 1956 on the Glenartney for the Solomon Islands via Hong Kong.9

He arrived back in England at Southampton on 20 June 1958 on the Dominion Monarch from the Solomon Islands via Wellington.12

He was widowed at age 60 on the death of his wife Peggy on 30 July 1973.13,14

Robert's second marriage was to Primrose Keighley Balfour in July 1975 in Sutton, Sussex.15,16

He was widowed at age 87 on the death of his wife Primrose on 15 June 2000.17,18,19

Robert died on 26 August 2000 at St Richards Hospital in Chichester, Sussex, at age 87.20,21,22

His will was probated in Winchester on 18 April 2001.22
