He went straight to Clifton College, Bristol (a well-known Public School) in Sept 1876, where he was one of the Maths teachers, and stayed there till retiring in 1904.
He was co-author of "A School Arithmetic", Hall, H.S., Stevens, F.H. 1908. (London: Macmillan) with 17 reprints over 53 years, with four between 1950 and 1961; "Elementary Course of Mathematics", Hall and Stevens, MacMillan 1901; "Lessons in Experimental and Practical Geometry", Hall and Stevens, Macmillan 1905.4,1
He was listed in the 1881 census at 47 Canynge Sq in Clifton, Gloucestershire, as Asst Mathematics lecturer at Clifton College, with a BA from Queens College, Oxford. It is unclear if he is really the Head at this address - he may be boarding with George Austen, Professor of Music.5

He was awarded MA at Oxford, Oxfordshire, on 11 March 1886.6
