Jonathan died on 13 December 1834 at 'Matavai' in Cobbity, New South Wales, at age 36 probably a suicide by drowning.1 He was buried in December 1834 at the St Matthew's in Windsor.1

He was widowed at age 85 on the death of his wife Mary on 15 December 1883.1
