Margaret Kirk (Bunty) Brown was born in Dennistoun, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 3 September 1903.¹

Margaret died in 1994 in Lochcarron, Ross & Cromarty.²

Mary McLeod (Molly) Brown was born in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, in 1908.¹

She signed the register at James John Macinnes Brown and Margaret McLaren McGregor's wedding at North Church in Renfrew, Renfrewshire, on 15 September 1939.²

Mary died in 1995 in Lochcarron, Ross & Cromarty.³

Mary Newell Brown was born in Shoreditch, London, Middlesex, on 9 August 1786.² and was baptised on 3 September 1786 in St Leonards Shoreditch.¹

She married Thomas Forsaith, son of Samuel Forsaith and Sarah Andrews, at St Andrews by the Wardrobe in London, Middlesex, on 26 March 1811.^3,1,4,5

Mary died in February 1831 in London, Middlesex, at age 44. She was buried on 14 February 1831 at the Bunhill Fields Dissenter's Cemetery.^6,7,8

Moses Brown was born in Pennsylvania in November 1892.¹
The siblings Margaret, Moses, Frances and William were listed in the 1900 US census at 5255 Tennantown Ave in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the household of their parents, Thomas Wistar Brown and Margaret Muir Coldstream.¹

Robert Doig Brown was born at 135 Campsie St in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 24 December 1905.^1,2,3

He arrived in London on 24 July 1931 on the Ranpura, having left Penang, Malaya. He gave his intended address as 8 Loanhead Av, Renfrew and described himself as a 'planter'. It is not clear how or when he originally went to Malaya, although it may have been via the delivery voyage of one of the Simons shipyard's dredges.⁴

He returned to Malaya on the Glenogle, leaving London on 5 March 1938, bound for Port Swettenham (the old name for Pelabuhan Klang, the port of Kuala Lumpur).⁵

He married Mary Gordon between 1939 and 1942. This marriage may possibly have taken place in Malaya.

By February 1942, when his wife escaped the Japanese takeover of Malaya, he was recorded as being a prisoner in the Japanese Index Cards of Allied Prisoners of War and Internees, which show he was a planter and had been a Lance-Corporal (#6685) in the Federated Malay States Volunteer Force (enlisted 1938), and was transferred to Singapore in May 1943. However, in his Liberation Questionnaire he states he was originally captured in Singapore on 15 Feb 1942 and was in Changi from Feb - May '42, later various camps in 'Siam', then Syme Rd (Dec '43 - Feb '44) then back to Changi until Sep '45.^6,7,8

He and his wife Mary returned to the UK after the war on the Aquitania, arriving in Southhampton on 10 January 1946, having left from Sydney. It is not clear how he managed to get from Singapore to Sydney after the war, but we presume Mary was living in Sydney from 1942 until 1946. He once again described himself as a rubber planter.⁴

He subsequently returned to Malaya, leaving Southampton on 4 April 1946 on the Indrapoera, bound for Singapore, and intending to reside there; he gave his occupation as rubber planter. His wife left Liverpool a little later to join him.⁵

He was the informant of Christina Nowell (Tina) McInnes's death at 8 Loanhead Ave in Renfrew, Renfrewshire, on 4 July 1952.⁹

He and his wife Mary left London on the the Strathmore on 8 March 1955, bound for Melbourne. They were living at Lochcarron, where he was farming, and returned to London on 26 Jun 1955 on the Oronsay.^5,4

Robert died on 14 July 1972 in Lochcarron, Ross & Cromarty, at age 66.^10,11 He was buried at the Lochcarron New Burial Ground in Lochcarron.¹¹

He married Margaret Thomson at 9 Haldane St in Whiteinch, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 24 September 1914. (Church of Scotland) He was a marine engineer and she was a sewing machinist at this time.²

He sailed on the Morea from Colombo, Malaya to London, arriving on the 22 August 1930 - he gave his occupation as 'engineer', and was returning to live at Ferguson St, Renfrew.³

Robert died on 29 May 1955 at Nthn Infirmary in Paisley, Renfrewshire, at age 65 of chronic bronchitis, emphysema and cardiac failure. The informant was his daughter Margaret.⁴

Roda Brown was born in Pennsylvania circa 1902.¹
The siblings Roda and Lida were listed in the 1910 US census at 208 Wesley Ave in Ocean City, Cape May, New Jersey, in the household of their parents, Thomas Wistar Brown and Margaret Muir Coldstream.¹

Thomas Wistar Brown was born in Pennsylvania in February 1858.²

He married Margaret Muir Coldstream, daughter of William Coldstream and Fanny Caroline George Anson, circa 1890.¹

He was listed in the 1900 US census as head of the family at 5255 Tennantown Ave in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with his wife Margaret; he claimed he was a janitor who hadn't worked for 7 months - this appears to be either a listing mistake by the enumerator, or a joke on Brown's part. Their children Margaret, Moses, Frances and William were listed as living with them.²

In January 1907 he was convicted on six counts of cruelty to his 6 children (Margerie (15), Moses (14), Francis (12), William (10) and Rhoda and Lydia) and fined $100 on each count. Subsequent events became even more bizarre when their mother and friends were accused of kidnapping the 4 oldest children and forcibly removng them to California (from NY Times files).

He was listed in the 1910 US census as head of the family at 208 Wesley Ave in Ocean City, Cape May, New Jersey, with his wife Margaret; he gave an occupation of 'none'. Their children Roda and Lida were listed as living with them.³

William Brown was born in Lanarkshire circa March 1877. (Birth date based on age at marriage).

He married Christina Nowell (Tina) McInnes, daughter of James McInnes and Mary McLeod, at St Judes Church (Free Presbyterian), Jane St in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 10 November 1899. William was an engine fitter journeyman when he married.¹

William died in 1931 in Hillhead, Glasgow, Lanarkshire.²
