Harold (Hughie) John Forsaith was born at Prospect in Adelaide, South Australia, on 2 July 1889.1
He enlisted on 23 February 1915 as a Cleaner in Company 300, Reinforcement 6, (#6838), being single, a Motor Mechanic, resident at 69 Park St, Hyde Park, Sth Australia and giving his name as 'Hughie John'. He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A35 Berrima, 28 Jun 1915 (embarkation number 25/99/3) and served 3 months at Gallipoli, before being attached to 5th Division HQ as a driver, and later discharged from this unit in June 1916, (although his subsequent discharge from the AIF did not occur until February 1917). He joined the Royal Flying Corps in Oct 1916, was attached to the RFC school by Nov 1916 and gained his commission as 2nd Lieutenant on probation, effective 16th April 1917. His first posting was to the 28th Reserve Squadron in Gosport, a training squadron, although it was re-equipped with Sopwith Camels and then moved to France.2,3,4
He died on 18 August 1917 in Nord at age 28.5,4 He was buried in August 1917 at the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension in Nord.6

Henry Spencer Forsaith was born in London, Middlesex, on 16 September 1814.1,2 and was baptised on 26 February 1815 at Kings Weight House, Fish St Hill (Independent).3,2
He married Elizabeth Rowley, daughter of Robert Rowley and Elizabeth Harris, at St Marylebone church in Marylebone, London, Middlesex, on 20 August 1860. Henry gave his occupation as 'merchant'; his father John was described as a Dissenting Minister and her father Robert was simply 'MD.1,4,5,6'
He was listed as the son-in-law of Elizabeth Harris in the 1861 Census at 4 Titchfield Tce in St Marylebone, London, Middlesex, and was a merchant's clerk.7
He was listed in the 1871 census as Head of Family at 20 Augusta Rd in Ramsgate, Kent, with his wife Elizabeth; he was living on 'income derived from public funds' - presumably investments. Their children Elizabeth, Ellen, Selina, Henry, Alfred and Joseph were listed as living with them.8
Henry died on 26 January 1881 at 21 Vale Sq in Ramsgate, Thanet, Kent, at age 66.1,9,10
His will was probated in Canterbury, Kent, on 30 March 1881 with Elizabeth Rowley appointed executrix of a personal estate of less than £1500.10
