Martha Caroline Marshall1,2
(1871 - )
Martha Caroline Marshall was born in Illinois in June 1871.3
She married John Stockdale Spencer, son of Thomas Spencer and Elizabeth Berridge, in Denver, Colorado, on 9 September 1893.1
She was listed in the 1900 US census in Precint 39, Teller, Colorado, with her husband John; they were living in their own (owned) home and the household included their children Clyde (6) and Clarence (11 mths), although they had had a total of three children. He was working as a machinist and claimed to have been born in 1860 - this is the first indication of his wandering birth year. He also claimed to have entered the US in 1885 and be Naturalised, which was not true.3
Martha was divorced from John Stockdale Spencer at Teller, Colorado, on 13 December 1906.2
She was listed in the 1905 New York census as head of the family at 322 Aspen St in Cripple Creek City, Teller, Colorado; she was working as a sales-lady at a drug goods store and her son Clyde (16), living with her, was an electrician.4

Mother* | Elisabeth Clemitson3 |
Thomas Marshall was born in Lanchester, Durham, on 8 October 1812.1,4,5 and was baptised on 9 October 1812 in Lanchester.5
He was listed in the 1841 census at Bell St in Tynemouth, Northumberland, in the household of one Mary Scott. Given this person gave their occupation as a seaman, it seems possible this is the same man who married Isabella, given that her father was also at sea, although by the time of their marriage he had become a pitman.6
He married Isabella Moor, daughter of Joseph Moor and Margaret Robinson, at the Chapel of Horton in Tynemouth, Northumberland, on 13 May 1842. Both claimed to be 'of full age'; Thomas and his father Robert were pitmen, Isabella's father a sailor.1,2,7
He was listed in the 1851 census as Head of Family at Crofton Mills in Cowpen, Northumberland, with his wife Isabella; he was a coal miner. Their children Robert, Jane, Joseph and Thomas were listed as living with them.4
He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family in Newsham, Northumberland, with his wife Isabella; he was a coal-miner. Their children Robert, Jane, Joseph, Thomas, Barbara and John were listed as living with them.1
He was listed in the 1871 census as Head of Family at 7 Double Row, Weetslade in Dudley, Northumberland, with his wife Isabella; he was a coal-miner. Their children Joseph, Thomas, Barbara, John and Ellen were listed as living with them.8 He signed the register at Ralph Paul and Barbara Warner Marshall's wedding at the Registry Office in North Shields, Tynemouth, Northumberland, on 21 April 1873.9,10,11,12
Thomas's death was registered between January 1880 and March 1880 in Tynemouth, Northumberland.13
