Charles Edward Winter Purdon1

Charles Edward Winter Purdon was born in Killucan, Co. Westmeath, on 28 February 1894. His father was Edward Winter PURDON of Lisnabin (1910), of Agher (1911), b 1853, who became Edward Winter PURDON-WINTER in 1912, having succeeded his uncle James Sanderson WINTER conditional on his assuming the name and arms of WINTER quarterly with those of PURDON. In 1893 he married his cousin Cecilia Albuera Frances RADCLYFFE of Hants (d. 1933); Edward died on 5 Jan 1927.1,2,3
He was listed in the 1901 census in Tullyard, Clonmacduff, Co. Meath, with his parents Edward (a land agent) and Cecilia and brothers Samuel (5), George (4), Denis. The household included 6 servants, from coachman to parlour maid.4
Charles Edward Winter Purdon was also known as Charles Edward Winter having assumed the use of the WINTER surname.1,2
He was listed in the 1911 census at Chemocke House, St Thomas St, Winchester School in Winchester, Hampshire.5
He was listed in the 1921 census at Wormwood Scrubs Camp, 54a Goldhawk Rd in Hammersmith, London, Middlesex, under the surname of Winter as an Officer in the Army (9th Battalion London Regiment).6
He was educated at Winchester and the Royal Military College Sandhurst before serving in the Rifle Brigade in WW1, where he rose to the rank of Captain, and was awarded the MC. He transferred to the East Lancashire Regiment in 1922, retired in 1927, but was re-called in 1939.2
The divorce proceedings of Charles Francis Linnaeus Stevens and Geraldine Nora Barton in 1930 listed Charles as a co-respondent.7
He married Geraldine Nora Barton in Kensington, London, Middlesex, on 31 October 1930.8,2
He was listed in the 1939 Register at Royal Station Hotel, Station Rd in York, West Riding, Yorkshire; he was serving in the 2/21st Lincolnshire Regiment.9

William Quinn

He successfully took over and managed his father's bacon-curing business and was a director of J. M. Brown & Co. He was much travelled, author of 'Wisteria & Jade' and was prominent in musical circles, including the First Church and Invercargill Male Choirs.3
He married Elizabeth Selina May Macdonald, daughter of Thomas Morell Macdonald and Charlotte Clements Forsaith, in New Zealand in 1906. There were no children from this marriage.4,5
William died on 9 November 1925 in Invercargill, Southland, at age 54.6 He was buried on 10 November 1925 at the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery in Invercargill.7
