Harriet died on 2 July 1917 in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty.^4,6 She was buried at the Te Puke Old Cemetery in Te Puke.⁴

He was listed in the 1921 census at 9 Castle St in Chesterton, Staffordshire, with his father Timothy (an out of work underground horse keeper for the colliery of E Heather & Low Moor Ltd), mother Elizabeth, brother Henry (18 - an out of work trammer for the same colliery), brother Bernard (15 - a brick kiln waggoner), brothers Reginald (12), Timothy (8), plus his grand-parents Henry and Alice Tompkin.⁴

He married Kathleen Phyllis Clarke, daughter of Edward Blomfield Clarke and Mabel Kathleen Neumann, in Russell on 5 August 1938.^2,1,5
