She was listed in the 1841 census at 84 Aldgate High St in St Botolph Aldgate, Middlesex, as a member of the milliner Ann CLARKE's household - she was also a milliner.5

She married Charles Watt at St Georges Church, Everton in Liverpool, West Derby, Lancashire, on 16 June 1846. He was a mason, son of another Charles WATT, and was living at 48 Holmhead St, Glasgow at the time of the marriage.1,6,7

She was listed in the 1851 census as Head of Family at 3 Susannah Place in Hackney, London, Middlesex; strictly speaking Maria is not listed as the Head of Family, but as Wife, even though her husband is not present. Her children Florence, Selina and Kathleen were listed as living with her, as were her sisters Selina Elizabeth Forsaith and Ann Forsaith who appear to have understated their ages by 3-5 years.3

Maria arrived at Port Philip Bay, Victoria, on 25 November 1852, on board the 'Lady Eveline' from London accompanied by her husband Charles Watt and children Florence Mary, Selina Elizabeth and Kathleen Anne.8

Maria died on 31 August 1877 in Veronica, Victoria, at age 58.1,9,10
