George Denis Wise was born in Dunedin, Otago, on 12 May 1904.^1,2

He was educated at Otago Boys High School, for whom he played rugby in the 1st XV (1920-21) before joining the Pirates club in Dunedin. He was a swift winger, standing 5' 10" and first played for Otago as a 19-year old in 1923. He had six games that year and another four in 1924.
He was chosen for the All Blacks 1925 tour of Australia, where he was an effective try scorer, topping the statistics with a total of 5 tries over the 7 games. There was a preliminary match against Wellington and a game on return against Wellington-Manawatu-Horowhenua as well as five games in Australia but no tests were played.
After the Australian tour he made another two appearances for Otago before transferring to North Otago (Kurow club) where he played two matches for that union in 1928.²

He married Alexa Oreti Stuart, daughter of George Stuart and Elsie Isabella Cumming, in New Zealand in 1929.³

George died on 1 September 1971 in Dunedin, Otago, at age 67.⁴ He was cremated at the Dunedin Crematorium, Anderson's Bay on 3 September 1971, and ashes scatered 6 Sep.⁴
