Samuel left England in August 1841 on the Mandarin, in the care of his mother Mary and aunt Rebecca. On arrival in Dec 1841 at Port Nicholson they sailed on the [ITAL:]Abercrombie [:ITAL]to Auckland, where they were met by George CLARKE Jnr who escorted them to Waimate Nth.1

He married Caroline Elizabeth Williams, daughter of Henry Williams and Marianne Coldham, at Holy Trinity Church, Pakaraka in Bay of Islands, Northland, on 15 December 1858.2,3,1,4,5,6

Samuel died on 2 April 1884 at Tupe Tupe in Ohaewai at age 59.7,8,1,9 He was buried on 3 April 1884 at the St John the Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, 344 Te Ahu Ahu Rd in Waimate North. The service was officiated by the Rev. Edward Blomfield Clarke.10,7,1
