Donald Wilson Lang was born in Lang's Beach, Northland, on 3 March 1933. He was the youngest of six children, Margaret (who died in infancy), Hector, Anne, Mary, Ian and Donald.2
At the end of his time at Waipu primary school he won a scholarship to Kings College Auckland for secondary education. Kings fostered his maths/science interests, and he became dux of the school. At University he achieved an honours degree in mathematics, followed by one in Physics.
He then went to the Australian National University in Canberra, and graduated with a PhD in theoretical physics. After a year in Auckland lecturing he took a post graduate position at the Bartol research institute in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, then moved to the Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, also in theoretical physics.2
After a year teaching first year physics in Kansas, followed by his wedding, he moved to the Harwell Research Establishment in England, but as his one year appointment was not renewed, he moved back to teaching in Kansas. Two years later the family moved back to Swarthmore, where he taught first year physics at Penn State University.
The final move was to a position at the Lucas heights Research Establishment in Sydney.2
Donald died on 14 May 2019 in Sydney, New South Wales, at age 86.2

Ethel Mary Larkin was born in Hackney, London, Middlesex, on 1 February 1895. She was the daughter of George Henry LARKIN and Mary STRELITZ of 47 Glyn Rd, Homerton; he was a clerk.3,4,2 She was baptised at St Johns in Hackney, London, Middlesex, on 10 March 1895.2
She was listed in the 1901 census at 19 Markhouse Ave in Walthamstow, Essex, with her widowed mother (aged 32) and brother Cresswell (aged 2). Her mother and brother's surname was BEARD, meaning her mother must have been widowed twice.5
She was listed in the 1911 census at 51 Bentham Rd in Hackney St John, London, Middlesex, and was working as a clerk at an account book manufacturer.6
Ethel was present at the wedding of Sydney Ernest Wicks and Rose Emmeline Rust at Tanners End Mission Hall, Stalham Grove in Edmonton, Middlesex, on 22 May 1915.7
