Alexander Robertson was born in Scotland on 13 August 1847. He was the son of Peter ROBERTSON (farmer) and Christina STUART.2 He was baptised in Abernethy, Inverness, on 18 November 1847.3,2
He was listed in the 1871 census at St George's Terrace in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, where he was a boarder in the household of Stewart Lawson, a draper, also from Scotland. Those present were in the clothing trade and Alexander himself was a travelling draper.4
He married Mary Fergusson, daughter of John Fergusson and Christy McGregor, at 131 Annfield St in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 2 May 1873. He was a draper and she was a shoe saleswoman.5
He was listed in the 1881 census as Head of Family at Bottom of the Dale in Madeley, Shropshire, with his wife Mary; he was a draper. Their children William and Alexander were listed as living with them.6
