William Corbin
(c 1835 - 1905)
William Corbin was born in Hampreston, Dorset, circa 1835.1 He was baptised in Hampreston, Dorset, on 8 March 1835, father John CORBIN and mother Jane (although she is subsequently listed as Ann in census records).2
He was listed in the 1841 census in Kinson, Canford, Dorset, in his parent's household, where his father John was a dairyman.3
He married Elizabeth Walters, daughter of Jethro Walters and Jane Hall, at the Parish Church in Wimborne, Upwey, Dorset, on 7 March 1859. William was described as yeoman, as was his father John, and Elizabeth's father was Jethro WALTERS, mason.4
He was listed in the 1861 census in Wimborne, Wimborne Minster, Dorset, in his parent's household, with his siblings Henry, Martha and Emma. His father John was a farmer of 120 acres and employed four labourers - William may have been one, as he is listed here rather than with his wife and son, who are with her parents.5
He was listed in the 1871 census as Head of Family at East Borough in Wimborne, Dorset, with his wife Elizabeth; he was an inn-keeper. Their children Jethro and Jane were listed as living with them, as was his nephew George Frederick Amor.6
He was listed in the 1881 census as Head of Family at West Borough in Wimborne, Dorset, with his wife Elizabeth; he was now a carrier and the household included six lodgers of various ages and trades.7
He was listed in the 1891 census as Head of Family at the Post Office in Upwey, Dorset, with his wife Elizabeth; he was now the local Postmaster.8
He was widowed on the death of his wife Elizabeth on 16 February 1900.9,10
He was listed in the 1901 census as Head of Family at Elwell St in Upwey, Dorset; he was still the local Postmaster. His daughter Jane was listed as living with him.11
William's death was registered between January 1905 and March 1905 in Weymouth, Dorset.12 He was buried on 6 March 1905.4
