James Richard (Dick) Cumming
(1924 - 2021)
Father* | George Cumming b. 1889, d. 1974 |
Mother* | Ethel Maud Robinson b. 1888, d. 1973 |
James Richard (Dick) Cumming was born in Bulimba, Brisbane, Queensland, on 23 February 1924. Only at the time of obtaining his birth certificate in preparation for his marriage did he discover he had been registered as 'James Richard' - up until then he had always assumed he was 'Richard James', and had recorded himself in official documents as such. Thus his Army records state he is 'Richard James' and also (curiously) give a birth year of 1923.1,2
He enlisted in the Australian Army (service no. QX58212 & Q129546) on 18 September 1943 at Queensland.2
He married Gloria May Taylor in Brisbane, Queensland, on 7 December 1946.
He was widowed at age 64 on the death of his wife Gloria on 21 August 1988.
James died on 20 February 2021 at Sunshine Coast University Hospital in Birtinya, Queensland, at age 96.3 He was buried on 25 February 2021 at the Buderim Cemetery, 405 Mooloolaba Rd in Buderim.3
