Her children Jane and Ann were listed as living with her, as were her grand-children (by Jane), namely Jean Williamson and Christian Williamson and Donald Fergusson.¹¹

She was listed in the 1881 census as Head of Family at Struan cottage in Blair Atholl, Perthshire; she called herself 'a masons widow'. Her children Jane and Ann were listed as living with her, as were her grandsons Donald Fergusson and Ewen (or Hugh) Cumming and they were all classified as Gaelic speakers.¹²

She was listed in the 1861 census in Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire, with her husband John; he was listed as an agricultural labourer and the household included their six children plus a boarder, also named Jane STEWART.⁵

She was listed in the 1871 census in Gairloch Northern, Ross and Cromarty, with her husband John; he was now farming 1050 acres (of which only 50 was classed as arable). The household included five of their children and a servant.⁶

She was widowed on the death of her husband John on 6 May 1874.⁷

Jean died on 19 February 1877 at 'Drumchork' in Gairloch, Ross, of 'supposed dropsy (8 mths).⁸'
