She was listed in the 1871 census at 14 1/2 Newcastle St in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, with her husband John; he was a traveller (presumably a travelling salesman). Their children Alexander, John, Ernest, Norman and Anita were listed as living with them, as was Jessie's mother Jessie Morrey Coutts Muirhead.10

She was listed in the 1881 census at Cardiff St John in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, with her husband John; he was an agent for a rope works. Their children Alexander, Ernest, Norman, Anita, Mabel, James and Winifred were listed as living with them, as was Jessie's mother Jessie Morrey Coutts Muirhead and sister Catherine Muirhead McFarlane.11

Jessie, as the mother of the groom, attended Ernest Stuart Fergusson and Constance Evelyne Legay Hawkins's wedding at St Margaret's Church in Roath, Glamorganshire, on 1 October 1888.4,12,13
