James Durkin1

(1887 - 1948)
James Durkin was born at 21 Castle St in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, on 18 July 1887. He was the son of James Durkin (ship's carpenter) and Mary Banks, who were married in Dumbarton on 21 Oct 1886.1

As of circa 1924, James Durkin was also known as James Edward Edmonds and appears to have used this name until his death.2

He had a defacto relationship with Mary Ferguson, daughter of James (Jimmie) Ferguson and Mary Duncan Adam, from circa 1927 as by the time of her daughter Carolyn's marriage, she was using the name Edmonds (which he had also changed to use), as was her other daughter Irene.

James died on 2 January 1948 at Great Eastern Hotel, 100 Duke St in Whitehill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, at age 60 of myocardial degeneration.2
