William Joseph Ecroyd was born in England circa 1827. and was baptised on 27 January 1827 at St Mary Magdelen in Bermondsey.3
He was listed in the 1841 census at Kent Rd in Southwark, Surrey, in the household of a William Brockley.4
He married Selina Elizabeth Forsaith, daughter of John Forsaith and Elizabeth Sarah Ward, in Victoria in 1855.1,5
William arrived at Melbourne, Victoria, on 19 April 1862, on board the 'Swiftsure', having left Plymouth on the 6th of January accompanied by his wife Selina Elizabeth Forsaith.6
William died on 13 November 1880 at 'Oakrood', Barkly St in St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria.7,8 He was buried on 14 November 1880 at the St Kilda Cemetery in St Kilda.9
