James Ferguson was born in Scotland circa 1883. (calculated birth year). He was the son of James Ferguson (letter press printer) and Mary Thomson.

He was an auctioneer's clerk at the time of his marriage but by the 1920's he was a timekeeper in a shipyard.¹

He married Mary Ferguson, daughter of James (Jimmie) Ferguson and Mary Duncan Adam, at Prince of Wales Hall, Sauchiehall St in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 23 August 1912. Despite the matching surname, they were totally unrelated.¹

He was listed in the 1921 census as Head of Family at 3 Narval Place in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, with his wife Mary; he was a time-keeper for Lithgows Ltd, shipbuilders. Their children James, Irene and Carolyn were listed as living with them.²

The family were booked on the Letitia, which left Glasgow for New York on 12 February 1927 but appear never to have made the trip, as their names were crossed off the passenger manifest.³

James died before 1851 as his wife was a widow in the 1851 census.

He married Clementina Paul Sim, daughter of Robert Sim and Christian Milne, in Banchory-Ternan, Kincardineshire, on 6 December 1866.^1,2

He was named as a beneficiary of the will of Alexander Fergusson, his father, dated 25 July 1896 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire; he was to inherit an equal share of the estate along with his survivng siblings.⁸

James died on 19 April 1949 at 1052 Dumbarton Rd in Partick, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, at age 88 of 'senility'; the informant was his son Alexander, who incorrectly stated that James' mother was Maggie Ferguson, nee Macgregor.¹³

James Dickson Ferguson was born in Cambuslang, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 13 August 1895.^2,3

It is unclear exactly when he emigrated to Canada, but he worked as a clerk for the Canadian Pacific Railway for three years before enlisting in 1915 and was active in hockey, baseball and swimming, as well as serving with the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers militia.^3,5

He enlisted in the 78th Battalion of the Manitoba Regiment, #147836 on 15 July 1915 and due to being an excellent shot, had been selected as a sniper, but at the time of his death was a signaller with the headquarters staff.^6,3,5

James died on 26 November 1916 in Pas de Calais at age 21 and is commerated at the Vimy Memorial overlooking the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge, north of Arras. The Vimy Memorial is Canada’s largest overseas National Memorial and commemorates more than 11,000 men of the Canadian Expeditionary Force killed during the First World War in France and who have no known grave.⁶

He was listed in the 1930 US census as head of the family at 148 Murray Ave in Yonkers, Westchester Co., New York, with his wife Gwladys; he was an automobile painter, their house was rented ($35/mth) and contained a radio. Their children Gordon, Jean and John were listed as living with them.¹⁰

He was listed in the 1940 US census as Head of Household at 538 E Main St in New Castle, Westchester Co., New York, with his wife Gwladys; he was an auto painter. Monthly rental on the house was $35, and he declared an annual income of $1560. Their children Gordon, Jean and John were listed as living with them.¹¹

He was listed in the 1950 US census as Head of Household at 202 Green Lane in Bedford, Westchester Co., New York, with his wife Gwladys; he was self-employed in his own autobody repair shop. Their child John was listed as living with them.¹²

He was widowed at age 84 on the death of his wife Gwladys on 13 November 1979.^13,2

James died on 27 December 1979 in Clearwater, Pinellas, Florida, at age 84.^14,2

Jamesina Ferguson was born in Camlachie, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 18 February 1918.^1,2
The siblings Robert and Jamesina were listed in the 1921 census at 30 McDougall St in Camlachie, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, with their parents, Robert Adam (Bertie) Ferguson and Margaret Cassidy.³

She signed the register at Samuel Strachan and Jane McAndrew McFarlane Scott's wedding at the Parish Church in Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, on 3 June 1933.⁴
