Herbert Morell Macdonald was born in New Zealand on 24 October 1897.1
He enlisted in the NZ Army (Private, serial # 8/2978) and embarked for Egypt on the 9 Oct 1915 as part of the 7th Reinforcements, Otago Infantry Battalion.2
He married Anne Gilroy McNair at 'The Mount' (bride's residence) in Derrinallum, Victoria, on 30 July 1930.3
Herbert died on 29 December 1961 in Pura Pura, Victoria, at age 64.4,5 He was buried at the Camperdown Cemetery in Camperdown.4

Isabella Macdonald was born in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, circa 1877. She was the daughter of Angus Macdonald (seaman) and Isabella McNeil.1,2
She married Ewen Ferguson, son of Alexander Fergusson and Elizabeth Stewart, at 95 Kenfield St in Blythswood, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, on 23 November 1899. He gave his occupation as cattle-dealer.3

During WW2 he rose to be Lt-Colonel (#60379) of the 24th Infantry Battalion NZEF, and was 2IC from 25 Feb to 12 May 1945, then Commanding Officer until 5 Jul 1945. He was wounded on the 26 Mar 1943, and was also awarded the Military Cross.2
He married Margaret Frances Whittome in New Zealand on 29 September 1945.3
