George Barton1

(1790 - 1839)
He was baptised in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, on 4 June 1790, his parents being John and Mary.2

He married Ann Oxled in Penn, Buckinghamshire, on 21 February 1811. At the subsequent baptism of his daughter Esther he gave his occupation as wheelwright.1,3

George died between January 1839 and March 1839 in Cookham, Berkshire.4

Geraldine Nora Barton1

Geraldine Nora Barton was born in Belgaum, Bombay, on 10 August 1894. She was the daughter of Lawrence Fleetwood BARTON (Captain in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Scots) and Grace Elizabeth FIREBRACE.2 She was baptised at St Mary's Church in Belgaum, Bombay, on 20 September 1894.2
She was listed in the 1901 census at House no.11 in Augherinagh, Dripsey, Co. Cork; the census return shows her father, now a retired Army Major, was born in New Zealand, while her mother was born in Australia. Clearly the family had travelled widely, as her sister Mary Grace (aged 12) was born in Sth Africa, Sybil Dora (8) was born, like Geraldine, in India and her brother Ralph Firebrace (4) was born in Scotland. The household also included four local servants.3
She was listed in the 1911 census at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Scarborough, North Riding, Yorkshire, where she was staying with her father and sister Sybil.4

She married Charles Francis Linnaeus Stevens, son of Charles Richard Stevens and Emma Polglase James, at St Jude in Kensington, London, Middlesex, on 3 January 1918. He described himself as a Captain in the 10th Lancers.1,5

She was decorated with the Victory Medal and British War Medal for her service with the Voluntary Aid Detachment of the British Red Cross from 25 May to 26 Nov 1917.6

In 1930 Charles petitioned Geraldine Nora Barton for divorce, citing Charles WINTER as co-respondent.7

Geraldine's second marriage was to Charles Edward Winter Purdon on 31 October 1930 in Kensington, London, Middlesex.8,9

She was widowed at age 58 on the death of her husband Charles on 4 May 1953.10,11,9

Geraldine died on 25 January 1979 at Castle Ward in Strangford, Co. Down, at age 84.12

Her will was probated on 17 May 1979 with the estate valued at £103,443.12
