He embarked from Adelaide on RMS Malwa, 2 December1915 (embarkation number 23/27/3), served in France with the 1st Railhead Supply Detachment before returning to Australia with the rank of Staff Sergeant and being discharged in 1919.2,3
He married Myra Blanche Bennett at St Augustines Church in Unley, Adelaide, South Australia, on 27 December 1919.4
Edward died on 16 June 1945 at Fullerton in Adelaide, South Australia, at age 51.5,2,6 He was buried on 17 June 1945 at the West Terrace Cemetery. The inscription records him as S/Sgt (#3745), 1st Railhead Supply.2,7
